New Meaning to the Term Survivor

"I was diagnosed with breast cancer at one of the most challenging times in my life," says Lori. "My daughter, who had been a runaway, had just returned home, and I had just started a new job a month earlier." Lori found the lump herself, and was devastated when her results came back positive.

"I developed early in life and was used to having large, remarkable breasts," says Teri. "They were a big part of who I was, who I had always been." But when diagnosed with breast cancer, Teri's top concern was survival, and saving her breasts became a secondary issue.

"While cancer did run rampant on my mom's side of the family, I was only 39 and this kind of thing just couldn't be happening. I was one of those, "It'll never happen to me" people. Well it did."
